Who should attend the Citizens’ Police Academy?
Citizens and business owners or managers that live or work in St. Petersburg

The St Petersburg Police Department and the Florida Regional Community
Policing Institute are pleased to announce an upcoming Citizens' Police Academy.

The purpose of the Citizens' Police Academy is to provide citizens and business owners or managers with a better understanding of the St. Petersburg Police Department. The academy consists of eight (8) weeks of instruction, beginning on April 2, 2007 and ending on May 21, 2007. Classes will meet Monday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the St. Petersburg College, Allstate Center,3200 34th Street South. Attending the academy will not certify you to work as a police officer, but it will give you insight into police work and you'll have fun along the way.

Students will have the opportunity to:

- Learn about sexual predators and internet safety
- Understand what happens when you call the police
- Learn how officers make use of force decisions
- Learn how K-9 units are trained and utilized
- Walk through a mock homicide scene with a homicide detective
- See the Tactical Apprehension and Control Team in action
- Learn about volunteer opportunities with the police department
